RAM teases with TRX tuff truck

US truck maker RAM has teased tuff truck fans the world over with the launch of the Rebel TRX concept, an engineerin­g, design and consumer- interest study for an extreme performanc­e half- tonne pickup. The TRX is powered by a supercharg­ed 6.2- litre hemi V- 8 which delivers 238kWs ( 575hp) and equipped with a TorqueFlit­e eight- speed automatic transmissi­on, a BorgWarner 44- 45 transfer case and 4x4 Performanc­e Control System offering a choice of grip modes, Normal, Wet/ Snow, Off- road and Baja. The TRX concept uses a standard Ram 1500 front axle with an open differenti­al and custom CV half- shafts to handle the wider track dimension. The spindles are moved forward to make room within the wheel wells for the aggressive 37- inch t yres. At the back a Dynatrac Pro 60 axle spools power through an electric, selectable locker diff to 35- spline, 38mm ( 1.5inch) axles. The front suspension incorporat­es custom- built upper and lower A-arms with wheel travel up 101mm ( four inches) front and rear to more than 330mm ( 13- inches). Bypass- style shock absorbers and uprated ( coil) springs are used front and rear while Canadian specialist Baer has provided six- piston monobloc brake callipers mounted to 381mm ( 15- inch) brake rotors up front and six- piston callipers and 355mm ( 14- inch) brake rotors out back. Tyres with 37 inches of height, 13.5 inches of width, aggressive treads and 10- ply design are assigned the task for Rebel TRX. The Rebel TRX concept also features custom beadlock wheels from Mopar mounted with 10- ply 37 inch race truck t yres. Completing the racer- inspired look the Rebel TRX carries t wo complete spare t yre and wheel packages with tools and a jack located in custom, lockable storage between the wheels in the bed.
