Ironman Monster Winches

-

Ironman 4x4 has totally redesigned and upgraded its range of Monster winches, including stronger motors, heavy duty casings, synthetic ropes, competition style solenoids and are the only winch on the market with a motor breather.

With two in the range, a 9500lb and a 12000lb and with the option of steel or synthetic cable there is a winch to suit your needs.

Engine Breather

The greatest new feature of the range of winches is the fully sealed motor with a breather that allows the motor to equalise changes in temperature and pressure by means of a remote breather hose which can be placed high in the vehicle away from water.

The Ironman Monster winch is the only winch on the market with this feature, and the reason is simple. Issues tend to arise when winches come into contact with water or when they heat and cool drawing in moisture resulting in corrosion, especially when they are not used or serviced regularly.

The sealed motor keeps the motor dry while the remote breather allows it to breathe to outside away from water.

The 12000lb monster winch has a six hp ( 4.5kW) series wound motor while the 9500lb uses a 5.5hp ( 4.1kW) series wound motor. Both have sealed waterproof bearings at both ends of the armature for better stability and reduced friction. The armatures are individually balanced for high speed operation and all wiring is coated for heat protection. With prolonged operation winch motors heat and Ironman have added an external heat sink with increased surface area to transmit heat away from the engine.

Gearbox

The winch gearbox has been designed with precision machined hardened gears which eliminate float and give smooth operation. The clutch mechanism used to engage and disengage uses a sliding system with straight cut gears which eliminates any gearbox slip and the handle has been notched to ensure it remains in the selected position.

The rotatable gearbox allows positioning of the clutch handle to allow fitment to most bars and easy hand access and the redevelopment has resulted in a low profile clutch handle allowing for a more universal fit. Gearboxes are completely sealed and use premium high quality lithium grease to reduce the effect of heat, water and oxidization. The gear reduction is 265:1 and utilises a three-stage planetary system.

Control Box

The Ironman control box is waterproofed and sealed to resist water contamination reducing the risk of shorting out. The solenoid used is completely sealed and has tungsten tipped contacts providing long life and resistance to arcing. Operation of the winch is by means of one controller where the plug in and wireless remote are integrated into a single hand piece for ease of operation. It can easily be switched to wireless mode and used up to 30 meters away and also comes with an inbuilt LED light. Wireless remotes are individually programmed for each winch.

Drums and Cable

Drums are fitted with and automatic ‘Cam Lock’ which holds the drum in position when winching stops. This cam lock system produces very lit tle heat and activates quickly. Winches can either be specified with 28 meters of 8.3mm ( 9500lb) or 9.4mm (12000lb) of wire cable or 28m of synthetic rope which is ultra light and 45 percent stronger by weight than steel.

General

All winches come with full wiring kits and instructions, four- way roller fairlead or alloy hawse fairlead, winch damper blanket and a massive five-year warranty. Spare parts are carried in NZ and are readily available should they be required.

Ironman Monster winches have a standard bolt mounting pattern which will allow them to fit to most bars and vehicles.

TDS- Raptor, Bull, Orca... all are model names from the Kingone winch selection you can purchase from any Kingone dealer.

The TDS-Raptor

The TDS-Raptor is a high speed 9500lbs winch which has been a mainstay on the NZ 4WD scene for the past eight years. Boasting features like the 156.1 gear ratio and 5.2hp motor and dual cone load holding brake, the Raptor is supplied with synthetic rope and wireless remote.

Able to be configured to fit onto any winch bar platform the TDS-Raptor has an

IP- 67 dust and water rating and is backed by importer and distributor Phillbrook Technologies’ great after sales service to its dealers with spare parts available for all models of Kingone winches carried here in New Zealand.

Bull Winch

Basically designed to challenge the American Jeep market the Bull- 9.5 carries all the features of the TDS-Raptor but comes with American styling and black livery. The extra cover plates enable the Bull range to make the IP- 68 dust and water rating. The new integrated solenoid box looks the cat’s pyjamas. The Bull winch gained runner up in the new product category at SEMA two years ago. So it ticked the box for the USA market.

Orca Winch

The Orca range covers a wide range of winching options in the form of pulling power.

Orca starts with a 9000lbs winch with a dual cone holding brake. Something that has been missing in the past in this size.

Orca then jumps to 11000lbs and 13000lbs winches. The 9000lb Orca comes with wire rope but the 11000lbs and 13000lbs range models come with synthetic rope. All have wireless remotes. The Orca range runs a 206.1 gear ratio.

The Orca has a smooth winching speed, is a very

easy winch to accommodate most brands of winch bars available here in NZ, and yes it does come in black!

So if you need to know more about the Kingone winch then give the dealers listed on the ad a call.

These are the guys who fit them and back them up. In most cases all of the Kingone dealers run a Kingone of some description in their 4x4 as well.

Bushranger is ARB’s preferred winch with the Revo 10,000lb model – available with either wire or synthetic rope – packed with features.

High- quality construction, a low current draw, four-stage oversized gearing with fast line speeds and an advanced proportional friction braking system that will reliably hold 100% of the rated load with no slippage are just some of the reasons informed buyers choose one of Bushrangers’ Revo winches.

The zero drag braking system allows for fast no load line speeds, making unspooling the rope a breeze. No more pulling against the friction of traditional winch braking systems as the Revo system uses the power of the winch to do the unspooling for you with no concern of brake drag causing unnecessary wear and heat build-up.

A fully sealed motor and gearbox ( IP67rated) gives maximum protection from water, dust and debris, meaning the winch is ready for anything you can throw at it.

Winch weight fitted is just 33kg, and the versatile design of the Revo Winch maximises the ease of installation with 16 Gearbox clocking positions ( resulting in 22.5-degree increments) and a multi-mount Control Box.

The wire version is supplied with a robust roller fairlead setup incorporating durable stainless steel rollers, while the synthetic version comes standard with a twoposition aluminium Hawse Fairlead, an innovation first introduced by Bushranger.

A wireless hand controller rounds out the premium synthetic version, allowing for reliable, no delay, the cord-free operation of the winch, giving you the freedom to manoeuvre around the vehicle without the limitations and tangles.

Bushranger Revo Winches has a limited lifetime mechanical warranty. a five-year electrical warranty, and are available now from ARB dealers nationwide.

Ground anchors are a great idea, allowing you to winch yourself out of trouble when there isn’t a tree or other suitable anchoring point in sight. But carrying around a large, bulky ground anchor isn’t always practical.

Enter the locally conceived and made Lan- cor version.

While traditional anchors are big and cumbersome, when packed in its carry bag the Lan- cor is less than half a metre long, weighs just nine kg and can easily be stored with the rest of your recovery equipment in your vehicle.

This, in a nutshell, is why more and more people – including NZ4WD columnist Richard Soult as well as the likes of the Fire Service, Department of Conservation ( DoC) and the New Zealand Transport Agency ( NZTA) – are going the Lan- cor way.

New twist on old principle

The Lan- cor unit’s compact size when packed down is obviously one of the key reasons for i ts wide appeal. But i t is not the only one by any means. When you need it, i t is easily unpacked and assembled into a strong, easy- to- manage anchor. And once i t is set in the ground, i t can withstand enormous pulling loads in most terrain – including sand, where – amazingly – i t is at i ts best!

Lan- cor is not just another auger anchor, either. In fact, i t puts a new t wist on the old auger principle by using an auger blade with a length of wire rope attached just above the auger head which the winch attaches to. Several detachable lengths of shaft attach above the blade to screw the anchor into the ground.

The auger head of the Lancor is made up of a 25mm diameter solid steel shaft, while the detachable lengths of shaft are box section that clip together to give an overall length of 1.8 metres.

Goes further for longer

What this means is that the Lan- cor design can go far further into the ground than other anchors and as i t is pulled from the bottom has much greater holding power in a far wider range of terrain.

With an impressive 5.5 tonne safe working load, Lan- cor can withstand some pretty serious loads. In fact, manufacturer field tests at a beach showed that the

Lan- cor easily withstood the pull of t wo long wheel base Toyota Land Cruisers, both sunk in sand to the axles, winching themselves out at the same time off the same anchor.

Lan- cor is used by New Zealand and Australian essential services and, after a stringent and lengthy process of testing and certification has now been picked up by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization ( NATO) and is now on i ts list of approved devices.
