Dave Sturrock was one of the first to sign up for a membership at Hampton Downs when it opened earlier this year and he convinced his brother Ken to join him as his plus one. The brothers both own 1967 Camaros and Ken regularly flies into Auckland from his home in Dallas, Texas to get some track time. “I’m just learning how to drive a race car,” says Ken. “One of the attractions of the membership deal was that I could come out here and learn the track without the risks associated with a racing environment. Dave has been racing for years but I’d never been behind the wheel.” “I said to Ken, ‘you must be sick of watching,” explains Dave. “Why don’t you buy a car yourself and come have a play? And so he did. I’ve already done half a dozen members days so my membership has paid for itself. And the beauty of it is if it’s raining there’s a bar in the members lounge where you can hang out and meet like-minded people.”
