RECORD ATTEMPT HALTED

-

The British-based Bloodhound SSC landspeed-record team were hoping that, thanks to funds from a large Chinese investment company, their record attempt would be taking place in early 2017. News has now broken that that’s not going to be the case. The first run was destined to be a ‘slow test’ of the vehicle’s Rolls-Royce EJ200 jet engine, which would be followed by an attempt at bettering the 763mph mark set by the Thrust SSC in 1997. As it appears that the team are still waiting for more funds to materialize, their new plan is to perform the static engine tests over the next few months before getting the car on the runway at Newquay Aerohub in the UK shortly after. All going well, the team will then run in the Kalahari Desert, on the mud and salt flats of Hakskeen Pan, in mid 2018.
