MORE POWER FOR MORRIS

-

Before Ben Morris’ procharged Camaro came off the road a few years back for a bit of an overhaul, it was one of the quickest street cars in the land, carding a best time of 8.76 at 160mph. While those numbers still put Ben at the pointy end of the field, we can assure you that he’s not spent time working on the car to make it any slower. That said, included in the changes to the already brutal engine combo is a reduction in capacity from 580ci to 550ci to make it more boost-friendly. The new combo is based on a Dart Big M block filled with a Lunati crank and Oliver rods, topped with Race Flow Development (RFD) Victor Pro heads along with an Edelbrock SV565 intake manifold. One of the other big changes is the addition of a back seat–mounted water-to-air intercooler. A Reid-cased Powerglide has also been fitted. Despite all this, the car’s actually dropped almost 500 pounds due to various weightsaving measures. The plan for now is to get back on track, and then, once it’s running the numbers, the ladder-bar rear end will be pulled out in favour of a leaf spring and CalTracs setup along with a Fab9 diff. We’ll bring you more once the Camaro hits the track.
