Four’s Enough

-

As you may have guessed, Mark’s got a thing for retro-modern engines, and he’s not limited himself to V8s. One of his other toys is packing this 1934 Diamond Model A four-cylinder block, which has been bored out to .080 inches and fitted with an early cast-iron Cragar overhead-valve head. The induction side consists of twin downdraft Winfield SR B carbs mounted on an inverted and modified Riley intake. A rare FS electronic ignition works with an MSD spark-control box to make it fire, and spent gases exit through owner-built tuned-length headers. Thanks to a Mitchell gear splitter in the torque tube, the car’s good for more than 85mph, as Mark’s found out — apparently the sound it makes is equally impressive.
