Treated like a VIP at hospital

-

I’D like to relate my experience at Dunedin Hospital. On Wednesday afternoon (21.6.17) I went to the doctor not feeling too well, thinking I was heading for the flu.

After checking me over it appeared that my heartbeat was down to 32bpm. The doctor said any slower and we wouldn’t be talking. He arranged for an ambulance and I arrived in hospital at 4.45pm.

Once I was in the Emergency Department I felt like a VIP. I was attended to by several doctors and nurses, hooked up to monitors, blood tests taken and checked over. Next I was taken up to Ward 7C where I was under constant supervision until next afternoon when I was wheeled into the operating theatre. I was met by the surgeon and his team of nurses who made me feel I was the most important person in the room.

From the moment I came in they worked as a welloiled machine and about 45 minutes later I was the lucky recipient of a pacemaker, with my heart now beating at 60bpm. When I sat up to be transferred from the operating table to the bed I didn’t have that dizzy feeling and my head was as clear as a bell. The following morning I was checked and was discharged in the afternoon.

I’d like to thank the surgeons, doctors, nurses and hospital staff for the treatment and care I received and returning me to a healthy person in the space of two days. Well done and many thanks.
