Capsize false alarm

Oueenstown: A search and rescue operation in the Kawarau River appears to have been prompted by a false alarm.

An upturned kayak prompted a police search on Saturday shortly after noon. It was spotted by a member of the public near Roaring Meg — just off State Highway 6.

A police media spokesman said the job had now been closed and it was understood noone was in the kayak when it capsized.
