Emergency services inspect the scene of a car crash in Portobello Rd yesterday morning. A car slid on an icy section of road and plunged into Otago Harbour.
The driver of the car was treated by St John staff after the car left the road near the intersection with Doon St about 8.40am.
Skid marks showed the driver appeared to have slid across Portobello Rd and hit a wooden barrier before ending up in the harbour. Parts of the barrier were knocked off by the impact.
The road was reduced to one lane.
A police spokeswoman said officers were called to the crash about 8.50am.
Police, Fire Service staff and St John attended, but the car’s single occupant was out of the vehicle on arrival.
St John did not need to take the person to hospital and it did not appear any injuries were serious. No cause had been attributed for the crash, the police spokeswoman said.
