Incorrect figures used in rates vote

- By SAMUEL WHITE

A RATES resolution adopted by the Clutha District Council earlier this month included figures which were incorrect for several areas in the district.

The error is likely to be corrected at the council’s next meeting.

On June 14, the council adopted a resolution that included its stormwater targeted rates fixed charges.

Those charges were incorrect for Balclutha, Clinton, Kaitangata, Kaka Point, Lawrence, Milton, Owaka and Tapanui areas.

In a new agenda item for this week’s meeting, the information has been corrected and supplied to the council for consideration.

The council has set a uniform targeted stormwater rate for each separately used or inhabited part of a rating unit (SUIP) that was either connected to a scheme or for which a connection was available.

The recommendation will increase the recently adopted charges for Balclutha from $65.85 to $67.20, Clinton from $63.65 to $65.60, Kaitangata from $52.60 to $57.25, Kaka Point from $50.30 to $55.50, Lawrence from $61.25 to $63.80, Owaka from $48.10 to $53.90 and Tapanui from $65.20 to $66.70; Milton drops from $95.45 to $89.45.

Remaining rural areas are recommended to be set at $35.55.

The council will discuss the recommendation and change tomorrow.
