Cardrona plan still awaits panel’s decision
A FEW minor details of the planned new alpine village in the Cardrona Valley still need to be finalised before the proposal is given the goahead.
The proposed changes to the Mt Cardrona Special Zone could mean up to 640 residential sections, a fourstar hotel and a 12hole linksstyle golf course being developed on about 18ha of land about 2km north of the Cardrona village.
Mt Cardrona Station is owned by Aucklandbased property developer and investor Chris Morton.
A hearing on plan change 52, as it is known, was held in Wanaka at the start of July but no decision has been released by independent commissioners Ross McRobie, Jan Caunter and Rachel Dimery.
The commissioners raised concerns about some aspects of the plan change, particularly some traffic management conditions.
Of particular concern were the proposed intersections between Cardrona Valley Rd and the Cardrona skifield access road and the access road to the development site.
In a response to the traffic concerns, the developers have amended their original plan to allow both intersections to be moved 25m in any direction to allow for the safe and efficient functioning of those intersections.
There would also be a minimum of 25m between the two intersections.
