Celebrity chef guest at home show

ONE of Australasian television’s most widely recognised faces is set to entertain audiences at the Great Kiwi Home & Living Show in Dunedin later this year.

The celebrity chef and My Kitchen Rules judge Pete Evans will share his latest food ideas and tips in two cooking demonstrations at the November 46 show at Forsyth Barr Stadium.

Evans, who is married to former glamour model Nicola Robinson, said he was excited to be part of the show.

‘‘It is my first time visiting and I am super excited to experience something new and meet new people and hear their own stories.’’

Evans shot to fame in the mid2000s after a pizza from his Australian chain Hugo’s won the ‘‘best pizza in the world’’ prize at the American Pizza Challenge in New York.

In 2011, Oprah Winfrey sent 60 of her viewers from the United States to a pizza and cocktailmaking class with him.

He has published seven books about healthy eating and healthy lifestyles.

His lifestyle, which includes the use of alternative medicines and therapies, had attracted as much attention as his skill in the kitchen.

He has gained fans and critics for his promotion of the controversial paleo diet which limits dietary intake to food which could be hunted or gathered when cavemen lived.

All processed and packaged foods are excluded from the diet.

The diet was the most natural way to live, Evans said.

‘‘It is something that every animal, including humans, instinctively knows, that eating food it has evolved to eat is the most natural way to live.

‘‘ It really is that simple.’’ Show organisers Allied Press and Dunedin Venues were thrilled Evans would be attending.

Allied Press commercial manager Matthew Holdridge said showgoers were likely to learn helpful kitchen tips from the famous chef.

‘‘Pete is a household name in Australia and New Zealand, and we’re looking forward to welcoming him to Dunedin for the Great Kiwi Home & Living Show.

‘‘I’ve no doubt he’ll share his passion for healthy eating and living with our audience.’’
