Cad­bury grad­u­a­tion

MORE than 200 Cad­bury work­ers will at­tend a grad­u­a­tion cer­e­mony at the Dunedin Town Hall next month.

Mon­delez Dunedin site man­ager Ju­dith Mair said that the com­pany had been work­ing with in­dus­try train­ing or­gan­i­sa­tion Com­pe­tenz to pre­pare work­ers for the im­pend­ing clo­sure of the fac­tory.

Their skills would be recog­nised with for­mal qual­i­fi­ca­tions.

‘‘Over 4500 hours of train­ing has been com­pleted to date, in­clud­ing over 2500 hours help­ing our peo­ple achieve for­mal qual­i­fi­ca­tions,’’ she said.

The grad­u­a­tion would be held on Oc­to­ber 13.

Pro­duc­tion would start to re­duce in De­cem­ber, when the first group of em­ploy­ees would be laid off.

The fac­tory would close next March. About 300 per­ma­nent staff would lose their jobs, as well as sea­sonal staff.
