Ladies Mile proposal for discussion next month

- TRACEY ROXBURGH

A DECISION on a potential development at Ladies Mile has been delayed until next month.

After seeking community feedback, the Queenstown Lakes District Council discussed a proposal to amend its Special Housing Area lead policy to include the Ladies Mile area, between Lake Hayes and Lower Shotover, in August.

At the time the matter was left on the table for council staff to address a number of issues raised by councillors and report back to the council at this month’s meeting.

However, because the September meeting — held on Thursday this week — was in Wanaka, the council decided to postpone the consideration of the Ladies Mile item until its next meeting, which will be in Queenstown.

In a statement, council communications and engagement manager Naell CrosbyRoe said the council acknowledged the issue was an important one for Queenstown and attracted a ‘‘significant’’ amount of interest.

‘‘Given that the decisions being discussed are not timecritical at this point, it is important that the matter be heard in Queenstown to ensure everyone with an interest is able to attend with relative ease.’’

The item is expected to come back to the council at its meeting in the resort on

October 26.
