Meth importer jailed

-

Drug smuggling continues to be innovative, but Customs’ suspicions led them to a pallet of pink spatulas containing $20 million worth of methamphetamine.

Hong Kong national Ho Hin Gabriel Wan (24) was sentenced yesterday in the High Court at Auckland to 16 years and six months’ imprisonment for importing a class Acontrolled drug.

Wan came to New Zealand in May last year and while he was not found to have any drugs on him, he was linked to an air cargo shipment that came into the country from his homeland in July.

The 24piece pinkcoloured spatulas were contained in 80 boxes and each set had a 250g methamphetamine packet hidden underneath.

There was a total of 20kg of the drug.
