Towing the line
A LAND ROVER Discovery Td6 has pulled a 110tonne seventrailer truck for 16km in the Australian Outback in the ultimate towing test.
The display was part of the launch of the 2018 Discovery.
The Td6, which has a maximum certified towing capacity of 3500kg on public roads, successfully towed a 110tonne road train along a closed section of the Lasseter Highway, thanks to its 258PS 3.0 litre diesel engine and fourwheeldrive traction.
The vehicle used a standard eightspeed automatic transmission and was hooked up to the road train using a factoryfitted tow bar attachment. The road train itself was carrying 10tonnes of ballast in order to hit the magic 110tonne weight mark.
