Dunstan High riders make dominating SuperD runs
DUNSTAN High School pupils were to the fore at the South Island Secondary Schools Mountain Biking at Signal Hill yesterday.
Mountain Biking Otago, which hosted the championships, had a record field of 275 entries from more than 60 schools on Saturday and Sunday.
Dunstan High School pupil Fletcher Sharman was the fastest across the SuperD course ahead of his secondplaced schoolmate, Bradley Harris.
Sharman won the under20 boys section, while Harris was crowned the under17 boys winner.
Finn HawkesbyBrowne, of Hagley College, was third overall and winner of the under16 boys sections.
Ethan Rode (Darfield High School), won the under15 boys section, Marcus Blair (Christchurch South Intermediate) won the under14 boys section and Hamish Powell (Nelson College), won the under13 boys section.
Kate Brown was fastest girl in the downhill event and won the under20 title.
Amber Werensteyn (Nayland College), Zoe Nathan and Rebecca Hufflett (Nelson College For Girls) and Kalani Muirhead (Mount Aspiring College) each had age group wins.
After negotiating his way through the Signal Hill downhill course, Bradley Harris held an advantage of more than 30 seconds over the capacity field to win the under17 boys downhill title and in doing that recorded the fastest time of the weekend on that course.
Nils Heiniger, of Cashmere High School, scored the secondfastest overall time to win the under20 boys section.
The Waitaki Boys’ High School pupil scored the fifth best time overall to win the under15 boys title.
Finn HawkesbyBrowne and Marcus Blair clinched weekend doubles by winning their downhill agegroup sections, while Tom Hoare (Nelson College) took the under13 boys section.
Kate Brown scored a weekend double by as well as being the fastest girl home in the downhill title, adding the under20 title to her Super 8 win.
Amber Werensteyn, Rebecca Hufflett and Kalani Muirhead also backed up their Super8 wins by winning their downhill agegroup sections.
Olivia Lambert took out the Waimea College under16 girls downhill title.
