Tourist survives river ordeal

Blenheim: A German man has survived being washed some distance down a river in Marlborough’s Mt Richmond Forest Park.

The tourist (45) clung to his pack when he was washed away while crossing the river yesterday afternoon and made it to rocks in the middle of the river from where he was able to activate his personal locator beacon.

He was taken to Nelson Hospital for treatment for hypothermia and leg injuries by the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter.
