Vincent discharged

-

Hamilton: Disgraced former Black Cap Lou Vincent has escaped conviction after appearing in the Hamilton District Court yesterday.

The 39yearold earlier pleaded guilty to wilfully damaging a car in Pukekohe in November and was granted a discharge without conviction, despite police opposition.

Vincent paid the car’s owner more than $700 in reparations as part of a settlement.

The former New Zealand opener was banned from cricket for life by the England and Wales Cricket Board after admitting 18 counts of matchfixing in 2014.

He gave evidence in the perjury trial of former New Zealand cricketer Chris Cairns, which centred on matchfixing allegations, in London in 2015. Cairns was found not guilty. — NZN
