Somejoy looks one to beat

- JONNY TURNER

LEADING Southland mare Somejoy looks to have today’s Southern Belle Speed Series heat at Winton today at her mercy.

Although the Clark Barron mare has to contend with drawing the outside of the mobile barrier, that should not be enough to stop her.

Somejoy produced a crushing win over a similar field in her most recent start at Ashburton last month.

Envious looks the logical quinella selection with the favourite on the back of her win in fast time on

Cup day winner who clocked a good time should also be tough to beat at Winton today.

Like Somejoy, the Paul Courttrained Hail Christian will also be driven by Blair Orange and will also have to contend with the outside of the mobile barrier.

Up and coming Southland 3yrold Franco Santino was luckless when racing at the Northern Southland meeting and looks the major threat to Hail Christian.

Today’s feature trot offers speedy trotter War Machine an excellent opportunity to regain his winning form.

The Tony Stratfordtrained squaregaiter put himself out of contention when galloping in the group 3 Southern Lights Trot at the recent Northern Southland meeting.

Stablemates Jen Jaccka and Smokey Mac ran third and fourth in that race and are also strong chances today.
