Tributes flow for muchloved Queen’s High English teacher

TRIBUTES have flowed for a wellloved Queen’s High School teacher hailed as an inspiratio­n by her pupils.

Former head of English Jenny Webb, who died on Wednesday, taught at the Dunedin school for more than 40 years.

She retired in 2016.

Since her death there has been a flood of tributes from former colleagues and pupils on social media.

Emily Larkins said she knew Mrs Webb as ‘‘Mummy Webb’’.

‘‘I was a 4JWebb girl in 1996 and to us she was Mummy Webb.

‘‘Much fun was had dressing up for sports day, and hugs and kindness were her thing. She has helped shape thousands of young women and will be sadly missed.’’

Hannah Kelly said she was glad to have crossed paths with Mrs Webb.

‘‘You were the most beloved teacher and you will be missed by many. RIP Mrs Webb.’’

Nikki Daggar said her death was ‘‘very sad news’’.

‘‘Mrs Webb was a wonderful teacher and a powerhouse of positivity. She will be missed. Condolence­s to her family and loved ones.’’

Bianca Steenkamp credited Mrs Webb for helping her when she first moved to New Zealand and could not speak much English.

‘‘My heart hurts!! What an amazing person, she will be missed very much!!’’

Lauren Hurley said she was one of the ‘‘kindest, most caring and inspiratio­nal ladies’’.

‘‘By far one of my favourite teachers, she really made a difference in my life and I’m sure in many others.’’

Suzanne Jenkins said Mrs Webb was her and her daughter’s favourite teacher.

A post on Queen’s High School’s Facebook page said she was a ‘‘inspiratio­nal teacher, friend and colleague here at Queen’s for over 40 years’’.

‘‘Jenny had a charismati­c laugh, an infectious smile and a song for every occasion.

‘‘Her aroha for every student that passed through her door was so clearly evident and she only wanted the best for each and every one of ‘her girls’.

‘‘She shared her love of literature and passion for reading with us all.

‘‘We will miss this remarkable lady,’’ the post said.

A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Saturday at Queen’s High School.
