GOVERNMENT figures on the Ministry for the Environmen­t website indicate annual sealevel rise of 1.7mm between 1900 and 2008, less than onetenth of the figure quoted (nearly 2cm per year)

This equates to about an 18cm rise in 108 years, a cause for concern but hardly for alarm.
