Hopes for better Tasman service from Air NZ
I FOR one am pleased that Virgin is pulling out of the Brisbane flights.
It was always a secondrate airline. The onboard service was awful.
The other reason for my relief is the silly timetable.
Imagine leaving Dunedin at 8am in the middle of winter when the plane is stuck to the tarmac with the frost. Then you arrive in Brisbane about 10am, if you are lucky, and have to hang around till 2pm, when you are allowed into your accommodation.
Then, to return home, after leaving your accommodation at 10am, you have to hang around until 6.30pm for your flight. Again, if you are lucky, the plane will land about midnight, if the airport isn’t fogbound.
On one occasion last winter the plane had to go to Christchurch and the passengers spent the night at the airport. I can tell you Christchurch airport is one of the coldest in the country on a winter’s night.
Come on Air New Zealand, get back to flights late afternoon like you did before. No frost, no fog. W. Petty

Thanks for caring
IT is heartening to know that, in our increasingly fastpaced world, there remain those who make time to spontaneously help out others.
My daughter participated in the Otago Primary School Triathlon Champs in Cromwell on Wednesday, April 4. While on the bike leg, and far from any supporting parents or event marshals, her shoelace worked loose and wound round her pedal, causing her to fall off and cut her knee.
She was hurt, and understandably upset, but some kind soul came to her aid, freeing the offending lace and helping her back in the saddle with some kind words.
My heartfelt thanks to this unknown individual for such a caring act. It has taught my daughter much about how she would treat another in a similar predicament.
