Dunedin in good heart despite Cadbury closure

-

AS a recent visitor to your city, I would like to thank the people of Dunedin for their hospitality.

I was not visiting as a tourist, but as part of the crew relocating equipment from the Cadbury factory.

As a resident of the Adelaide area, I have seen the downturn in manufacturing jobs and understand how this affects small regional communities. In recent years we have lost two car manufacturers, associated component makers, two soft drink producers and many more small to medium employers.

Most were the decisions made by the ‘‘multinational corporate giants’’. I feel I am in a position to sympathise with your people.

However, the spirit of your city impressed me greatly. Every pub, bar and restaurant gave us excellent service. Thank you to all of you.

To the workers from Cadbury, it was a pleasure to work with you. Despite the fact the end was near, you all got on with the job and helped as asked.

I look forward to catching up with the ones relocating to Melbourne and I am sure we will enjoy a few more beers together.

I am sure that one day I will return to visit your ‘‘wee city’’, and will meet up with some of you again.

Make driving safer

REGARDS the recent arrogant attitude on Fair Go to the owner of a vehicle hit headon by a tourist driver in a rental, and the fact the police are not allowed to give the nationality of a driver causing a crash.

We the New Zealand motorists need the Government to urgently bring in these rules:

1. All need thirdparty insurance.

2. All rental vehicles must have reflectorised coloured number plates. This would give all motorists time to become extra cautious.

This would change the Sunday drive from being a game of Russian roulette to having a pleasant day out.
