Kanye’s new track about Trump, Obama
HOLLYWOOD: Kanye West has released a politicallycharged new song, in which he raps about Donald Trump and Barack Obama.
Ye VS. The People, his first new music since 2016’s Life Of Pablo, was aired on Los
Angeles hiphop station Power 106 FM on Saturday.
It came shortly after West earned praise from the US president, and criticism from many others, for his signs of support on Twitter.
In the track, West says: ‘‘I know Obama was heavensent but ever since Trump won, it proved that I could be president.’’
The US rapper goes on to add: ‘‘See that’s the problem with this damn nation, all blacks gotta be Democrats, man we ain’t even made it off the plantation.’’
West, in the song featuring rapper T.I., also seems to address his hat expressing Trump’s isolationist slogan, Make America Great Again.
‘‘I never, ever stop fighting for the people, actually wearing a hat to show people that we equal,’’ he raps.
He teased more music on his website, with a song called Lift Yourself, but fans were unsure whether the track featuring lyrics sounding like ‘‘scooptity doop, scoop dadee doop, scoop dadadi poop’’ was genuine or an attempt to ‘‘troll’’ fans.
Representatives for 40yearold West have yet to return a request for clarity.
West raised eyebrows last week with a flurry of sincedeleted tweets criticising former president Obama and supporting his ‘‘brother’’ Trump.
‘‘You don’t have to agree with trump but the mob can’t make me not love him. We are both dragon energy,’’ West wrote on Twitter.
‘‘He is my brother. I love everyone. I don’t agree with everything anyone does. That’s what makes us individuals. And we have the right to independent thought.’’
‘‘Thank you Kanye, very cool!’’ Trump replied to West on Twitter.
The US president went on to praise the rapper for having ‘‘good taste’’ in an interview. — PA
