Residents oppose plans for their road
PLANS to develop Peak View Ridge, in Wanaka, into an accessway to the Northlake subdivision have been opposed by the road’s residents.
Allenby Farms Ltd, managed by Lynden Cleugh, has applied for resource consent to complete works to form Peak View Ridge to meet council road standards to serve up to 200 residences.
The plan has attracted opposition from all six of Peak View Ridge’s current residents, who submitted together under the name Peak View Ridge Lot Owners.
The residents submitted they were concerned about the use of their road as an access point for Northlake and whether the effects of the proposal were consistent with the values of the road’s rural residential zoning.
A traffic management report in the application said the road would serve as an access point to an estimated 380 residences in the Northlake subdivision. However, the applicant argued the number was closer to the 200home threshold than the next level of road standard, which would serve up to 800 homes.
The application also stated there would be no effects on the existing environment from increased traffic or noise.
In an independent submission, Peak View Ridge residents Hugh and Nicole Meldrum opposed the application to develop the road in accordance with council roading standards for a road serving up to 200 residences, and noted the traffic management report suggested the potential number of residences served was ‘‘well above the proposed capacity’’.
They also strongly disagreed that there would be no effects on the existing environment.
Both submissions sought for the application to be rejected in its entirety.
A hearing will be held at the Lake Wanaka Centre on Tuesday, June 19.
