Swinging Sweden comes to Dunedin

The Dunedin Midwinter Swing Festival with special guest dance teachers The DecaVitas is on in Dunedin this weekend. Rebecka and Charlie DecaVita are instructor­s, choreograp­hers and performers of Lindy Hop, Charleston and other vintage swing dances. There will be workshops, three days of dance classes and four nights of social dancing to live jazz and blues music.

Steampower­ed fun

Oamaru’s Steampunk New Zealand Festival begins tonight and runs until Sunday, featuring events such as the Vaudeville/ AfterParty (R18), Teapot Racing, Mess Dinner with Airship Racing, Moments in Time Fashion Show, the Gala Ball and Tea Duelling.

Blues, jazz and rock

A Jazz Gala is being held at the Mayfair Theatre in Dunedin on Tuesday, featuring US guitarvoca­list Robben Ford (named one of the ‘‘100 Greatest Guitarists of the 20th Century’’ by

Musician magazine) and rocksoulja­zz singer Lydia Pense, who will perform with the Rodger Fox Big Band.

Oldschool craft photograph­y

Wet plate photograph­y teacher and former Park Road Post Production laboratory and restoratio­n manager, Brian Scadden will talk about his passion for oldschool craft photograph­y at the Dunedin City Library on Tuesday night. Presented by the New Zealand Society of Genealogis­ts.
