Public consultation for master plan

- TOM KITCHIN tom.kitchin@odt.co.nz

THE public will get their chance to have a say on the new Cromwell master plan at dropin sessions beginning this weekend.

Central Otago District Council chief executive Sanchia Jacobs said people would be able to speak to council representatives including Rationale Ltd, the company contracted by the council to create the master plan.

‘‘Anyone is welcome to come along to the public dropin sessions and have a chat about the master plan — these are important opportunities to have a say.’’

The first dropin session will be tomorrow from 10am1pm at the Cromwell Public Library.

Two more will be held later — Wednesday, June 6 from 36pm at the library and another on Saturday, June 16 at the Mall frontage from 10am1pm.

Other sessions will be announced in due course.

Following the dropin sessions, the master plan team will develop a shortlist of options which will be presented to the Cromwell Community Board in September.

The public would be able to give feedback on the options presented to the board in October.

The final outcomes for the master plan will be announced in June, and residents can give feedback on these next year as part of Annual Plan consultation.

Earlier private workshops with the board and invited stakeholders, including business interest groups, schools, sports clubs, NGOs and developers, recognised four themes — attracting people to congregate at places; accommodating growth while protecting Cromwell’s heritage and landscape; offering housing that is affordable; and identifying opportunities for economic development as the town grows.
