Cale Phillip Diggs (27), unemployed, of Balclutha, theft (Diggs stole a Toyota vehicle and a mountain bike from the father of his partner, offered them for sale on Facebook, sold the car for $300, someone who knew the victim saw the advertisem­ent and contacted police, the bike was never recovered), April 1June 24; aggravated drinkdrivi­ng (police received complaints about the man’s driving; he had three previous conviction­s going back to 2010, the court heard), 549mcg, Cromer St, 10.20pm, November 18; two charges of obtaining by deception (advertised model cars on a buyandsell group page, received payments of $240 and $175 from two separate victims and never sent the items), May 24 and November 13; four months’ home detention, 200 hours’ community work, 13 months’ disqualifi­cation, $2619 reparation (more than $7000 of fines remitted).

John Douglas McAdam (58), employed, of Dunedin, drinkdrivi­ng, 1173mcg (McAdam failed to see vehicle stopped at red light, crashed into back of it; told police consumed small bottle bourbon at work because having a bad day; told probation had been ‘‘dry’’ for lengthy period but under stress at time), about 2.50pm, February 21, six months’ community detention (curfewed 7pm7am daily), disqualifi­ed one year and six months, reparation $1500 (in lump sum by February 28 next year), nine months’ supervisio­n (with special conditions including not to buy, possess or consume alcohol or illicit drugs). McAdam had four previous drinkdrive conviction­s, the last in 1998.

Taryn Leigh McLean (36), selfemploy­ed, of Dunedin, drinkdrivi­ng, 128mg (motorist following McLean called police due to her driving all over the road), Caversham Valley Rd, about 7.30pm, March 21, fined $500, court costs $130, medical and analyst expenses $291.46, disqualifi­ed six months. McLean had had a couple of drinks after social netball, court told.

Torie William Cooper (25), diesel mechanic, of Dunedin, drinkdrivi­ng, 580mcg, Brockville Rd, about 1.30am, May 26, 90 hours’ community work, disqualifi­ed nine months. One previous drinkdrive conviction, in 2012. Brady James Clement (21), panel beater, of Balclutha, drinkdrivi­ng (stopped for random breath test, admitted he had been drinking at work, had caught up with friends and was on his way home, claimed he had drunk four stubbies), 568mcg, 9pm, June 1, Frances St, 90 hours’ community work, eight months’ disqualifi­cation.

Jayden Kohi Wiparata (30), scaffolder, of Dunedin, drinkdrivi­ng, 547mcg, and driving while forbidden (pulled over by police in Andersons Bay Rd just after 11pm on May 24, Wiparata admitted drinking alcohol earlier in the night and stated he should not be driving as he was forbidden; in explanatio­n said he was hungry so drove to McDonald’s and was on his way home), drinkdrivi­ng, 90 hours’ community work, disqualifi­ed eight months (zeroalcoho­l provisions when regains licence), vehicle confiscate­d; driving while forbidden, disqualifi­ed four months (concurrent). Counsel Steve Turner said Wiparata had stopped drinking five hours before, woke up hungry. Judge noted Wiparata previously convicted of drinkdrivi­ng.

Derek Paul Williams (54), employed, of Dunedin, drinkdrivi­ng, 455mcg, Taieri Rd, about 7.30pm, May 11, fined $450, court costs $130, disqualifi­ed six months.

Tyrone Gary Kenneth Zachary Mansell (21), breaching protection order (encouraged another person to engage in behaviour amounting to psychologi­cal abuse of protected person), about 11pm, May 23, sentence deferred six months.

Templer Smith (24), of Dunedin, intentiona­l damage (smashed window in his bedroom at mental health care property where he lives), about 1.20pm, May 4, sentence deferred nine months. Counsel Rhona Daysh said Smith apologised, attended restorativ­e justice.
