Lastgasp victory for Germany

- STAFF REPORTER

GERMANY’S World Cup is back on track thanks to a lastgasp miracle.

Toni Kroos scored a screamer in the 95th minute to claim a 21 win over Sweden, a muchneeded result after an opening loss to Mexico.

Kroos appeared to be too wide to the left to shoot, but delivered anyway.

He struck one with his right foot and managed to bury it in the top righthand corner of the goal.

That made up for a mistake from Kroos after he had turned the ball over and allowed Ola Toivonen to give Sweden the lead after 32 minutes.

Marco Reus levelled the scores just after halftime, kneeing in a cross in the 48th minute.

The win takes Germany to three points, although it is still behind Mexico, which beat South Korea 21 to go to two wins in as many games.

A Carlos Alberto Vela penalty gave the Mexicans a lead in the 26th minute before Javier Hernandez made it 20 in the 66th minute.

South Korea fought back with an addedtime goal via HeungMin Sonk, but the lead was too much to overhaul.

Belgium continued its strong start to the tournament with a

52 win over Tunisia.

Romelu Lukaku and Eden Hazard both bagged doubles as the favourite streaked out to a dominant win.

Hazard opened the scoring in the sixth minute with a penalty, before Lukaku made it 20 soon after.

Dylan Bronn hit back for Tunisia in the 18th minute, but Lukaku scored his second in added time to give Belgium a 31 lead at halftime.

Hazard added his second not long after the break and the score remained at 41 until the 90th minute, when Michy Batshuayi made it five.

Wahbi Khazri pegged one back for Tunisia late, but the result remained a resounding win for Belgium.

On Saturday, Brazil scored two late goals to beat Costa Rica 20.

The game appeared to be heading for a draw until Phillippe Coutinho pounced on a messy ball to put Brazil one up just after the 90th minute.

Neymar added a second seven minutes into added time to make the win look far more convincing than it was.

Ahmed Musa scored twice to give Nigeria a 20 win over Iceland.

Musa first struck in the 49th minute, halfvolleying the ball into the net after a dangerous counterattack from Nigeria.

He made it two when he took a long ball and a fantastic show of individual brilliance enabled him to put the ball in the goal in the 75th minute.

The win takes Nigeria to three points and essentially leaves its fate in its own hands.

It plays Argentina, which has one point, in its final game — a win or draw would probably be enough to advance.

Switzerland delivered late to beat Serbia 21.

Aleksandar Mitrovic put Serbia in the lead after five minutes, before Granit Xhaka tied things up in the 52nd minute.

A brilliant individual run from Xherdan Shaqiri proved a matchwinning effort, when he dribbled nearly half the pitch and dispatched the winner in the 90th minute.
