Two sides to border

-

THE poignant and horrific shot taken by John Moore of a 2yearold Honduran girl, scared, frightened, shoelaces removed by border guards before being separated from her mother, contrasts with the shots of Donald Trump at a rally in Minnesota.

This girl, and so many like her, are innocent victims. It is not all that long ago that we saw the same sort of shot of a drowned toddler in the surf on the shores of the Mediterranean.

Yes, of course, nations do need to control who enters and leaves their countries, but the actions of Donald Trump, who seems to blame everyone but himself in separating defenceless and innocent children from their parents, is unacceptable.

Time for the United States ambassador to this country to be summoned to convey our disgust. Russell Garbutt

A FEW facts the media is leaving out.

About 12,000 socalled families have been stopped at the United StatesMexico border. Of that number, 10,000 are children who have been handed over by their parents to human traffickers, criminals, disguised paedophiles who want use these unfortunate children as a means to enter the US.

What kind of parent would do that? They are not ripped from the arms of distraught parents, as the media would have you believe. Genuine families are kept together and processed and detained in comfortable areas.

A lot of the footage posted recently is 2014 file footage, when, under the Barack Obama administration they were kept for processing in zoolike areas and the numbers were double those currently.

This is political/hypocritical grandstanding as both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are on record about cracking down on illegal immigration. M. Hargest
