Norman out to add to personalbest tally

- JONNY TURNER

SOUTH Otago trainer Brian Norman will try add to his personalbest tally of winners in the South of the Waitaki series tonight.

Otago and Southlandtrained horses have trekked north for the first heat of the annual winter series at Addington.

Norman will line up Whata Razzle Dazzle in the event with Dexter Dunn booked to drive.

In the early autumn, the horse looked as though he would be totally out of his depth in Addington company, but Norman and Dunn have combined to transform the pacer’s form with two recent wins.

In his last race, Whata Razzle Dazzle hit the line strongly for third after getting well back in the running in a junior drivers’ event at Forbury Park.

Norman has trained a careerbest 16 winners so far this season, eclipsing his previous record of 12 set in the 201213 season.

On her best form, Shezacullengirl would be a standout in tonight’s race but whether she is at her peak is unknown.

The Paul Ellistrained mare’s form tapered off badly before she was sent to the paddock earlier this year.

She has been soundly beaten in two Canterbury trials leading in to her return tonight.

Shezacullengirl was good enough to run third behind Somejoy in the South Of The Waitaki race during New Zealand Cup week and then raced in much stronger fields than tonight’s before she was spelled.

Born To Boogie is set to start favourite in tonight’s event.

The Brett Graytrained filly was beaten for the first time in three starts when getting off the pace and running home for third in her last start at Forbury Park.
