CluthaCrescent clash bound to entertain

- FRANCIS PARKER

EVERY single game has plenty riding on it this weekend as we are only weeks away from finding out the top four of the competition.

Clutha hosts Crescent in a topofthetable clash. Clutha is unbeaten and Crescent has dropped only one game, the reverse fixture in the first round.

Clutha is four points ahead of Crescent so a bonuspoint win will propel the Coal Miners into first spot with a week to play.

Clutha had a solid win against Clinton last week, built on a huge defensive team effort. Crescent was sloppy but took maximum points against Owaka. There is no doubt both sides will be up for the clash as Clutha chases its 33rd win on the trot.

Heriot leapfrogged Toko into fourth last week after its win over the Milton side. A onepoint margin separates the sides.

Heriot hosts Lawrence for the West Otago Shield. Lawrence threw away a commanding halftime lead against Valley last week but its performance will have given it confidence to finish the season off well.

Heriot knows what it has to do. It is the favourite to take fourth spot and simply just needs to keep winning.

Toko hosts Owaka and will need maximum points and hope Heriot slips up.

It has left its fate in the hands of other teams, which is never ideal.

It has been playing some unbelievable rugby this season. Many times it has not had the full muster of players and still produced a positive result.

The task tomorrow will not be a straightforward one, as it runs into an Owaka side which is not far away from putting the complete performance together.

The Owaka team has had so many close ‘‘whatifs’’ this season and should win another game before the end.

Clinton hosts Clutha Valley. Valley can not move out of third spot but will want to lock away the Brian Steel Memorial. Clinton needs a miracle above it on the table to move out of sixth spot, so it will be looking to play well and hit form again as it approaches the bottomfour finals.
