Road resurfacing work to cause delays

- KAY SINCLAIR

MOTORISTS should plan for delays on some Green Island roads during the next two weeks while resurfacing work is carried out at newly installed roundabouts.

Night work to construct the new road surface at the roundabouts at the intersections of Main South Rd with Westland St, Abbotsford Rd and Brighton Rd, will be done over the next couple of weeks.

Weather permitting, it will start tomorrow and should be completed by July 19.

During the resurfacing work, Main South Rd will be reduced to a single lane in places, with stopgo signs.

On and offramps to the motorway will be closed between 6pm and 6am tomorrow and on Monday and there will be detours in place. Motorway traffic will not be affected.

The work involves removing and rebuilding the road surface in layers and will be carried out at night. But some work, to seal footpaths and construct drainage, will be done during the day.

If work affects footpaths, alternative routes for pedestrians will be in place.

The roundabouts installed at the Green Island interchange are to make it safer and improve traffic flow.

In total, the work will cost $2 million. The NZ Transport Agency paying for two of the intersections and the Dunedin City Council is paying for the third.

The project is expected to be finished by next month.
