More information and care of Ross Ck track needed

-

AS a group of daily walkers around Ross Creek Reservoir we would like the DCC to inform us if there is any maintenance work scheduled for the track.

There wasn’t any gravel last winter and there seems to be none this one either.

This makes it muddy, slippery and wet.

Also the steps that back on to the Balmacewen golf course are in need of attention, as is the bridge.

The rain has compromised one of its foundations.

Two areas of the track are slumping and with the amount of rain we have been getting we can see that these areas will most likely slip.

We have been walking this track most mornings for well over 15 years and see it as a fantastic asset to Dunedin people.

We are fully aware of the amount of work stabilising the reservoir for our future and the parts of the track closed while this work is carried out but the hardy walkers of Dunedin still find ways around the track and would hate to see it taken from us because of lack of care by the DCC.

Hobbyhorse criticism

I SEE Ralph Adler is back on his old hobby horse again (ODT, 7.7.18), this time taking aim at Dunedin North Intermediate’s priorities in building a new administrative block instead of replacing its coalfired boiler.

After being critical of Opoho School on a number of occasions in the past for having a coalfired boiler, he now suggests that both Opoho and DNI schools are endangering their students’ health.

Well, as I am a former pupil of both schools, I can assure Mr Adler that some 40 years later I am in good health, as are many other former pupils I know.

As for DNI’s new admin block, it was very much needed.

I noticed when my two children attended DNI, nothing had changed or was any different from when I was there. It was old and cramped, leaked and was hardly fit for purpose.
