WASHINGTON: In choosing Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh (53) for the Supreme Court, United States President Donald Trump went with a wellcredentialled Washington insider who has a long record as a reliable conservative.

The White House is confident that, if confirmed by the Senate, he will move the high court to the right on abortion, gun rights, affirmative action, religious liberty and environmental protection, among other issues.

Kavanaugh played a lead role in the aggressive investigation of President Bill Clinton for lying about a sexual affair with Monica Lewinsky.
