From one art form to another
Wakatipu High School year 13 art pupil Angela Santos has painted Whang Od, the oldest traditional tattoo artist in the Philippines.
This piece is an excerpt from a series of paintings Angela has created which depicted the art and the meaning of traditional tattooing.
Historically, male tattoos were warrior symbols, and female tattoos represented their coming of age.
Sadly, this is now a dying art form.
