That sinking feeling

- REPORT & PHOTO: SEAN NUGENT

She may have been the lone Croatian in Wanaka — and suffering from a cold — but Bozenka Raich was still celebrating her country’s remarkable comefrombehind victory against England yesterday to send it to its first Fifa World Cup final.

Too stressed out by the occasion to watch the game, she said she ‘‘went nuts’’ and ‘‘nearly cried’’ upon hearing the result not long after the final whistle.

While she had hoped to party all day, an unfortunately timed illness got in the way, so she vowed she would celebrate once she had recovered from her cold.

The victory sets up an intriguing final against France, that team that defeated Croatia in the semi finals of the 1998 World Cup on its way to winning the trophy.

Ms Raich said the Croatian team would be looking for revenge against the Frenchmen.

She said she would definitely be watching the final on Monday morning.
