Wesche wins U20 gold

Athletics: Maddison Wesche has claimed a shot put gold medal for New Zealand at the under20 world championships.

The Aucklander — who was third after the second round with 16.47m — unleashed a huge 17.09m personal best effort, hitting the lead by 4cm.

She became the third New Zealander to win the under20 shot put world title. Dame Valerie Adams won it in 2002 and Jacko Gill won it in 2010 and 2012.
