Physical test of dexterity to unite

- By PAUL SEMEL

ACLEVER physics puzzle game that’s safe for all ages, Love

Balls has no inappropriate content, despite what the name might suggest. But it’s very adfriendly — there’s always a banner ad running along the bottom of the screen, and fullscreen ads pop up randomly after you finish some puzzles. You can also opt to watch ads if you want to earn some ingame currency.

This currency, which you also earn by playing, is then used to buy new pens, balls, and backgrounds. Not surprisingly, there’s an option to buy an adfree version of the game.

What’s it about?

In Love Balls, you have to draw a line on the screen to help two balls come together. These balls are in love, and while this doesn’t have a story, it might help if you think of them as Romeball and Julisphere, two starcrossed lovers who need your help overcoming the obstacles in their life that prevent them from being as one.

Can you bypass the valleys, spikes, and other environmental hazards to reunite these two spheres?

Is it any good?

Once again, a fun mobile puzzle game is ruined by an overabundance of ads.

In Love Balls, you have to help two balls get together because they’re in love, and if two balls can’t find love in this crazy, mixedup world, what hope do any of us have?

To do this, you have to use your finger or a stylus to draw a line on the screen. Hopefully, that line will send one or both balls moving towards each other, give them a pathway to togetherness, or just prevent them from falling off the screen after you send them on their way.

Of course, the law of gravity applies here. But while this game can get really clever, and be really difficult to figure out, it can be equally annoying if you don’t spring for the adfree version. Otherwise you have to deal with the constant banner ads along the bottom of the screen and the fullscreen ads that pop up randomly after you complete a level.

It really does get annoying after a while, but if you can deal with it — or are willing to spring for the adfree version — you’ll find Love Balls to be a smart puzzle game that isn’t nearly as childish as its name suggests. — TNS
