Predator Free 2050 deadline unrealistic

-

PREDATOR Free 2050 is like building the Tower of Babel one brick at a time.

Currently the nation is embroiled in a 100year war with nature. It is appropriately called Battle for our Birds and proposes freedom from predators. Whatever else it frees us from remains an unknown.

This is a warfare without a strategy, an uncertain outcome, no budget constraints with no timeline. Except a date of 2050 when the beasts might be reduced to .03% of their current numbers. How many will still be here in 2050 to ask accountability?

Even the Tower of Babel must have run to some kind of accountability, with some confidence of completion; and a time frame. And we all know what happened to that idea.

Taxpayers wishing to know where their recently committed $81.3 million has gone only need to make an Official Information Act request to the Minister of Conservation. You will be advised they have no idea but if you check back next year when all the agencies gather around the monetary pig trough they might have a better idea.

Possums are certainly determined little fighters. They impose a massive financial burden on their oppressors. They could almost be admired.

The same cannot be said of Doc or the mad science that drives predatorfree. D. L. Langer
