RoslynWakari, Caversham draw

- NEVILLE WATSON

ROSLYNWAKARI and Caversham played out a 11 draw at a bumpy Ellis Park on Saturday, while University scored its first win of the season.

Roslyn had the wind behind it and dominated the early exchanges, looking threatening with wingers Cam Anderson and Nathan Wilkie running at Caversham’s defence. Roslyn’s big target man Tennessee Kinghorn hit the post with a longrange effort.

Caversham took more control as the half wore on and Andrew Ridden imposed himself in midfield as the side took the game wide.

It went ahead after 28 minutes with a goal from Michael Hogan off a corner.

The game drifted along in the second half before Ridden was judged to have handled the ball in the box. Kinghorn calmly slotted the penalty with 77 minutes gone. The game opened up as both teams pushed for the win, but neither was able to score.

Green Island was on the front foot right from the start against Mosgiel, and came away a comfortable 41 winner.

It scored its first goal after just 12 seconds.

A through ball was flicked on by Matt Brazier for Matt Milton to volley past Mosgiel’s custodian Sean McDonald.

Green Island doubled its lead not long after with a great cross from the right hand side which floated over Mosgiel’s defence and was met by Brazier, who timed his run superbly and volleyed in a spectacular shot.

More pressure led to a third goal when Mosgiel failed to clear the ball into a strong wind and Chris Kessell volleyed a great strike to take a 30 lead into the break.

Mosgiel also had its chances, with quick play down the flanks, only to be denied several times by Stew Catto in the Green Island goal.

A pressing move from Green Island caused Mosgiel problems and a mistake led to a calm finish by Lewis Wall.

Mosgiel kept pushing forward and got some reward when a free kick on the edge of the box was well struck by Regan Coldicott to make it 41.

University earned the win over Northern in a tight game, with a goal from Nick Kelly on 28 minutes being the difference between the sides.
