Adventure park for Cromwell?
AN adventure park developer is eyeing Cromwell as he adds another company to his portfolio.
A communications spokeswoman for Darron Charity, director of SCNZ Capital Cromwell Ltd, said that the company had been established ‘‘with the purpose of looking into opportunities in the Cromwell area’’.
She said there were ‘‘no specific plans at this stage that we would be able to provide any further information on’’, and told the Otago Daily Times ‘‘we are probably best to talk again in another couple of months and then there might be something more concrete/factual that we can chat about’’.
SCNZ Capital Cromwell Ltd was registered with the New Zealand Companies Office on July 19.
Its two directors are Mr Charity, of Christchurch, and Christopher Sutton, of Canada.
Half its shares are owned by Mr Charity and Andrea Charity, and the other half by Canadian company Select Contracts Holdings Inc, which is behind various adventure park developments in Canada.
In New Zealand, the Select Contracts group is behind a $30 million adventure park development in Porirua.
SCNZ Capital Porirua Ltd was registered on December 13 last year and has the same directors and shareholders as SCNZ Capital Cromwell Ltd.
The Porirua development was announced last October and is now going through the resource consent process.
It would feature a network of biking and walking trails, cafe, restaurant, gondola and indoor surf simulator, Mr Charity’s spokeswoman said.
Select Contracts was also involved in setting up the Christchurch Adventure Park, which features the Port Hills chairlift and zipline, although Mr Charity’s spokeswoman said the company was no longer involved with the park.
Select Contracts is also one of the stakeholders in the proposed zipline project at Oamaru Harbour.
