Dunstan B fights to the end in heavy defeat by A

- ANGELA MCDONALD

THE battle of Dunstan A and Dunstan B was the first game on the card this weekend, and it was no surprise Dunstan A won 5218.

The wet conditions again caused problems for all players, who were unable to gain correct footing and hit the deck early on.

Dunstan A took control of the game early in the first quarter, at one point scoring nine unanswered goals.

Goal attack Breigh Monaghan directed play well and rotated the circle effortlessly, creating great space for the ball to be fired in.

It was evident that the absence of Dunstan B starting goal shoot Beth McLeod made a difference.

With a short shooting circle, the usual high ball game plan needed to be adjusted, and A’s defenders were simply too quick on their feet to allow the flat passes in.

Despite A’s accurate shooting, B’s goal keep, Maddy Waldron, was tireless on defence.

B’s defensive unit worked well together but was simply ousted by the speed and accuracy of A’s movement and ball placement.

The Bs also lacked a strong drive on attack through court, often hanging behind their players, which meant easy pickings for A’s centre, Tegan Chapman.

Chapman picked up a number of high balls in the midcourt and along the circle edge with great elevation and reading of the play.

While the scoreline was large, the B players need to be commended for not getting their heads down, and carrying on strongly until the final whistle.

Molyneux beat Roxburgh Area School A 6536 in the highestscoring match of the season. Cromwell College A won by default against Vincent.
