Art for a cause

Red Cross’ annual charity art auction is back with more than 70 artworks by local and national artists for auction at the Community Gallery, Dunedin, tomorrow night. Music by the Tui Quartet.

Nationwide tour

New Zealand musician Julia Deans plays in Dunedin tonight at Fifty Gorillas and Sherwood in Queenstown tomorrow as part of her national tour to celebrate the release of her We Light Fire album. Inspired by world events, friends and family, the album examines both what it means to be human, and our spectrum of strength and vulnerabil­ity.

Madness

‘‘Crazy — A Rock and Roll Theatre Musical’’ opens on Wednesday at the Arrowtown Athenaeum Hall. It explores the plight of Mirabelle, an ordinary woman, who when faced with a series of tragedies finds herself in Ward 12, the mental facility in Invercargi­ll. ‘‘Crazy’’ follows her path in and out of madness. Written and directed by Margaret O’Hanlon.

Island Time

Samon Salesa explores the idea of what it would mean for New Zealand to act like a Pacific nation, Otago Museum’s Hutton Theatre, Tuesday. This lecture is based on the Michael King Memorial Lecture Salesa delivered to a standingro­omonly audience at the Auckland Writers’ Festival in May.
