Directors thrilled to win national award

-

DAVID Reid Homes Waitaki and South Canterbury has been honoured for building the David Reid Homes Home of the Year for 2018.

Directors Aaron and Nikki Mackay received the award at the David Reid Homes annual conference in Samoa early this month, and were thrilled by the result.

‘‘It was amazing to receive the award,’’ Nikki said. ‘‘We feel so proud of both our team of great builders and also all the tradesmen that worked with us to achieve such an impressive house.’’

The award was the result of nearly 3000 votes from people right throughout New Zealand. The Oamaru build picked up 1350 votes, a huge 416 votes ahead of second place-getter, David Reid Homes Kapiti.

‘‘We were so grateful that so many people recognised the home for what it is — a home outstanding in its field,’’ Nikki said.

The custom design and build was planned with family living in mind, with its owners requesting a home that would accommodate their busy family lifestyle.

Situating the home to make the most of spectacular westerly views was another key request from the family, who also wanted a courtyard from which to take them all in.

The result is a four-bedroom home with a spacious ensuite and family bathroom, separate media room and large open-plan living, kitchen and dining rooms.

‘‘Large rocks were brought in for the outdoor living spaces which complement the crisp sharp lines of the exterior cladding, a mix of Linea and cedar,’’ Nikki said.

Cedar has been carried into the home’s interior, creating a stunning contrast with a black, white and grey colour palette throughout.

‘‘The clients loved the finish of the black joinery and hardware, and this flows through the home beautifully.’’

Raking ceilings in the lounge and master bedroom, the large granite benchtop in the kitchen with waterfall ends, underfloor heating throughout and floor-to-ceiling tiled bathrooms add a touch of luxury to the home.

The double garage and separate laundry add to the home’s functionality.

The owners of the home said Aaron, Nikki and their team achieved a home which exceeded their expectations.

‘‘They paid attention to the small details, which resulted in a unique and high-quality finish.

‘‘The builders were helpful and friendly and communicated with us every step of the way,’’ they said.

‘‘With the fixed-price contract we had no nasty surprises with the build cost, giving us peace of mind throughout the building process.

‘‘We would definitely recommend David Reid Waitaki to anyone looking to build.’’
