Committed to the district

-

AARON and Nikki Mackay are committed to a future in Waitaki and South Canterbury.

But although they’re not ‘‘going places’’ literally, they certainly are figuratively.

The Mackays have just won the David Reid Homes Home of the Year for 2018 award — no mean feat just two years after they bought the Waitaki/South Canterbury branch.

The couple both grew up in the Waitaki district, Aaron at Totara and Nikki in Weston. They did their OE in Australia, then five years ago returned home to live close to their extended families.

Buying the existing David Reid Homes business was a perfect fit for Aaron’s long-term experience in the building industry, which has included constructing architect-designed residences in

New Zealand and Australia.

He is a licensed building practitioner who serves as project manager for every customer and oversees his own team of builders.

Aaron and Nikki had a show home at Weston from which to run their company. But like all David Reid Homes, it was a desirable residence that has now been sold.

Until a new show-home is built at the company’s Weston subdivision, the Mackays are working from their Otematata home.

As Nikki points out, with their territory stretching all the way from Palmerston through to Timaru and Twizel, they are located in the centre of it.

‘‘It works quite well.’’

Anyone wanting to discuss building a new home can simply phone Aaron and Nikki and they’ll help them through every step of the process.

If clients do not have their own section, David Reid Homes can help locate the ideal site. They work closely with real-estate agents and also offer Weston sections.

The company specialises in custom-designed homes, factoring in each client’s individual priorities and tastes.

Many people already have a firm idea of what they want, but Aaron can always offer suggestions and advice on the logistics of incorporating other options.

Ideas are ‘‘ever-changing’’, Nikki says, and Aaron keeps abreast of developments.

David Reid Homes uses local subcontractors wherever possible.

‘‘We’ve got a great team behind us,’’ Nikki says. They enable the company to meet its commitments on fixed-price contracts — the ultimate peace of mind for customers, who never get unwelcome surprises.

The building project is usually the fastest part of the process, she says. Planning and getting the appropriate consents is vital before the first sod is turned.

Aaron and Nikki take great pride in liaising with their customers to achieve their dream home. They are now enjoying word-of-mouth referrals from clients who are happily settled into their new homes.
