Frankton 30year master plan survey draws 150 responses

- DAISY HUDSON

MORE than 150 people have had their say on a plan to futureproof Frankton over the next three decades.

In July the Queenstown Lakes District Council approved $840,000 for a Frankton master plan.

The plan, which would span three decades and primarily cover transport and land use, has been proposed in a bid to manage future growth.

The first round of consultation on the plan closed on Friday.

Council communications adviser Rebecca Pitts said 156 responses were received to the online questionnaire.

There was also ‘‘a great response to our ideas board and high attendance at the joint Shaping our Future/Frankton Community Association Forum’’, she said.

Feedback and key themes will be published online by October 26.

‘‘The feedback will be fed into a vision/key outcomes workshop.

‘‘The date and invited attendees for this is yet to be confirmed, but we’ll be able to update further in the coming weeks.’’

A major feature of the plan is a focus on how to tackle the suburb’s traffic woes.

One measure to reduce traffic congestion was ‘‘mass rapid transit’’, the main option being a previously signalled gondola planned by Remarkables Park Ltd.

A ferry connection between Frankton and Queenstown and the exploration of other connections, including Lake Hayes Estate, and integration with the gondola, are also being mooted.
