94lot Alpine Estate subdivision approved

CLOSE to 100 homes are on the way for Wanaka.

Resource consent has been granted to Alpine Estate Ltd by the Queenstown Lakes District Council for the development of a 94lot subdivision east of Cardrona Valley Rd.

Owners David Reid, of Wanaka, and Mark Tutty, of Queenstown, applied for the consent at the beginning of the year.

The proposal provided for 94 residential lots ranging in area from 450sq m to 2040sq m across the 11.9ha site.

The application was publicly notified in April and received one submission, which was later withdrawn.

In her decision, council planner Wendy Baker said the development would have ‘‘positive effects’’ in providing more residential housing in the town.

The site previously received resource consent approval in January 2017 to subdivide a 2.2ha area into 14 residential lots.

The new subdivision will connect with the approved lots and the site adjoins the 281dwelling special housing area, proposed by Bright Sky Land Ltd earlier this year, and the Aspiring Lifestyle Retirement Village.

Given the number of developments and their proximity to the Three Parks shopping area, Mr Reid told the Otago Daily Times earlier this year he believed the area could become ‘‘the Frankton of Wanaka’’.
