To the right of the door are a luxurious velvet sofa and footstool accessorised with throws and cushions. This is just one of several corners in the Factory Rd interiordesign showroom where customers can pore over catalogues and discuss their needs with Willow & Silk’s owner, Louise Conley, and consultant Ashlee Norman.
‘‘We aim to make the showroom friendly and home like’’, says Louise. ‘‘We like to explore what the customer wants and find the ideal furnishings to make it happen.’’
When choosing a name for her business, Louise wanted to indicate a wide range of materials and ‘‘looks’’, from natural to sophisticated.
‘‘Some designers have their own set style, but we embrace the customer’s style,’’ she says. ‘‘Whether we’re helping with the finishing touches or creating the de´cor from start to finish, our goal is to make the process of interior design and renovating enjoyable by creating a relaxed environment instore, supported by products that inspire.’’
New houses can lack personality and working closely with the customer is particularly important. A single accessory can get the ball rolling.
‘‘We have clients who keep coming back,’’ she says. ‘‘Ash and I have lots of fun, just bouncing ideas around.’’

Louise and Ashlee travel as far as Balclutha, Middlemarch and Palmerston, visiting a range of customers, from young couples on a limited budget to retirees, offering experienced advice and competitive pricing.
